Refining Humanity: Photography and Empathy

2013 South Central Regional Conference

Houston and Galveston, Texas
October 17-20, 2013 @ College of the Mainland, Houston Center for Photography

This conference explores the many and varied ways in which photographers and lens-based artists illuminate the human experience. Is empathy, the ability to understand and share the feelings of another, at the heart of the photographic act? Are current developments in lens-based arts changing our capacity to recognize the emotions experienced by others? As educators it is important for us to encourage students to not only look inward but to expand their viewpoint outward. This conference addresses issues photographers, educators and students experience in the classroom as well as in their personal work when they challenge themselves to use lens-based media to illuminate the greater human experience.
As a reminder, the hotel conference rate is set to expire today, September 17.
